16U Team Comcast's Kevin Kerr to represent USA at Youth Olympics
The AMHL and the entire Team Comcast organization would like to wish 16U defenseman Kevin Kerr (Bensalem, PA) congratulations on being selected to the Team USA Youth Olympics Men’s Ice Hockey Team. The team will compete at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics held in Innsbruck, Austria January 13-22.
Kevin Kerr and Team USA will face stiff competition in the preliminary rounds including Austria, Canada, Finland, and Russia. Playing for Team Comcast for the past six seasons has helped develop and ready Kerr for this prestigious opportunity. Kevin has emerged as a high scoring defenseman for Team Comcast scoring no less than 32 points since his ’07-’08 Pee Wee Minor season. This year, Kerr has 11 points in 11 games and looks to continue this in Austria.

Congratulations to Kevin Kerr and Team Comcast. Go USA.
USHL developing first-round talent
November, 17, 2011
By Doug McIntyre
When it comes to scouting future NHL superstars, the United States Hockey League traditionally has been an afterthought compared to Canadian major junior hockey.
However, America's premier circuit for players under 21 is quietly closing the gap with its northern counterparts. With perhaps its best crop of prospects eligible for next June's NHL draft, the USHL could have a record number of players chosen in the first round for the second time in three years.
In 2010, four USHL stars were selected in the top 30, including goalie Jack Campbell, taken by Dallas at No. 11, and Derek Forbort, who went 15th overall to Los Angeles. That paled in comparison to the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) nine, but consider that the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) -- which has produced some of the best players in hockey history such as Sidney Crosby, Patrick Roy and Mario Lemieux -- had just one skater taken in the first round.
"It has gotten better, absolutely," Danny O'Brien, a scout for the Dallas Stars, says of the USHL and its growing influence on draft day.
"The league's got good coaching, good markets, and it's obviously developing good players." This season, the blue-chippers include Jacob Trouba, a defenseman in the U.S. National Team Development Program, fellow blueliner Mike Matheson of Dubuque, and Matheson's teammate with the Fighting Saints, Latvian-born forward Zemgus Girgensons.
All three are projected to go in the opening round in 2012, and Insider's own Grant Sonier wrote this week that the individual stock of each player is rising.
Other potential Top-30 picks include Green Bay Gamblers D-man Jordan Schmaltz (who made headlines after being involved in a blockbuster trade earlier this month and USNTDP winger Henrik Samuelsson, the son of ex-NHLer Ulf.
With top-end talent like that coming through the ranks, it's not surprising that USHL teams have more than held their own in preseason exhibitions against OHL and QMJHL clubs in recent years.
The competition between the U.S. and Canadian leagues has grown so fierce, in fact, that major junior clubs will rarely poach a player from the USHL anymore unless he's spent time playing college hockey first.
"Once they go to the USHL, they really can't come back to our league in a way," says the chief scout for one prominent OHL club. "It's kind of a touchy thing."
There are exceptions, of course. In 2008, current Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson jumped from the Indiana Ice to the London (Ontario) Knights. But one distinct advantage for the USHL is it allows players to maintain their NCAA eligibility, unlike the major junior leagues. So for most teenage prospects and their parents, it's not hard to see why the USHL is often the better option.
"When you're not a sure thing like a Steven Stamkos or whomever -- especially if you're an American kid -- going to the USHL is a safer bet," O'Brien says.
"Even if you get drafted by an NHL team, you've still got your scholarship. If you go to the OHL, you might make the NHL, but you might not. For a parent, it's an easy choice."
And increasingly, NHL teams are encouraging their U.S.-trained draft picks to stay home, develop against older, stronger players in college, and then move directly to the pros as they near their mid-20s.
If that trend continues, the UHSL won't be an afterthought much longer.
A member of our Team Comcast family has received some very unfortunate news –
Eric Eberling, very fondly known to his friends, teammates and family as “Ebo”, has been diagnosed with a malignant tumor on his femur. Ebo had a biopsy performed which determined that this tumor was cancerous. However, a bone scan has determined that the cancer has not spread and is isolated to this one location. Ebo will begin chemotherapy later this week. Ebo is currently a member of our 16 American team after being an integral part of our Bantam Major team that participated in USA Hockey’s National Championships last season. We are confident that Ebo will win this battle, as we know no one with more fight, determination, strong will and positive attitude than Ebo. However, we would also appreciate everyone in our hockey community providing their support to Ebo through their thoughts and prayers.

U16 American Team

Congratulations to the U16 Team Comcast American Team for winning the 2011 Frozen Cup!
Team Comcast Midget 18 off to Fast Start
“We are off to a solid start this season, but still have a lot of work to do,” said Head Coach Jared Beach. “Our early success can be attributed to the hard work the guys have put in throughout the summer months with me at Endeavor Sports Performance, and three weeks of training camp prior to the start of the season. As the season is still so young, we are trying to figure out line combinations and really define specific players' roles on the team. So far the guys are working hard, and for most of them learning a new system which obviously takes time. It really is a great group of guys that I have very high expectations for.”
· The Midget 18’s have managed to outscore the competition 23-12 so far with wins coming against the Valley Forge Minutemen, Philadelphia Jr. Flyers and a pair against the North Jersey Avalanche. Wins are great for the psyche, but developing and moving players on to the next level is, as Beach says, “in line with the development model and purpose of our organization.”
As a former player and current sports performance and ice hockey coach, Beach has a good perspective of the needs and demands of his squad. Understanding how to accomplish team goals, while overcoming the obstacles that inevitably arise in any season is a must for any successful coach.
“This year, our team goals are very simple. Improve and develop every day through hard work and proper preparation. Get as much exposure as possible to next level coaches, and ultimately make a run at a National Title,” said Beach. “The biggest challenge we face this year is staying healthy throughout the season. We play a very competitive showcase schedule, oftentimes with 4 games in a weekend. We put a huge emphasis on training and injury prevention to make sure we stay as healthy as possible through the grind of our season.”
Time will tell if the model Beach has instilled and the hard work the players have put in will pay off. So far, it’s looking pretty good.
Congrats to the Squirt Patriot team on being Squirt Division Champs at the Voorhees Skate Zone Labor Day Challenge!
John Gaudreau of Team Comcast Midget Major selected by the Calgary Flames in the Fourth Round (104th overall) in this years NHL Draft.
Jared Beach, coach of Team Comcast U18 Midget Major Team has been impressed with his player’s development over the 2009-2010 season. “John has an exceptional ability to see the ice,” Coach Beach states, “He is difficult to stop when he gets the puck on his stick and knows how to finish under pressure.” With a team-leading 50 points in 42 games, John, a 93 birth-year player competing against some of the country’s most talented 91’s and 92’s, is among the best forwards in the Midwest Elite Hockey League.
Congratulations and good luck to John.
CONGRATULATIONS to our U18 and '96 Bantam Major AAA Hockey Team on winning the Atlantic District Championship! Good Luck at Nationals!!

RAPIDSHOT HOCKEY TRAINING SYSTEM NOW AT VIRTUA HEALTH FLYERS SKATE ZONE-PENNSAUKEN
The Virtua Health Flyers Skate Zone-Pennsauken has now added the RapidShot Hockey Training System to their facility. The RapidShot Hockey Training System is an automated conveyor system that passes real hockey pucks to players at lightning speeds.
This system measures target accuracy, speed and reaction time and records an overall point value instantly calculated after each shot. After the session is complete, players can view their data report on the internet and check their rankings against players world-wide. Players can choose between four different training modes: Competition, Duel, Training, and Stick-testing.
With varying speeds and intervals and constant feedback, the system has become a highly valued training tool for athletes of all ages and skill levels. The RapidShot Hockey Training System is used by NHL players, including Ryan Kesler as well as athletes training internationally in countries such as Canada, Switzerland, Germany, and Russia.

Ryan Badger commits to the University of Maine!
Congratulations to Team Comcast 18U forward Ryan Badger on earning a commitment to play Division I College Hockey at the University of Maine. Ryan has had an outstanding 2010-11 season, leading the 18U team into the Atlantic District Championships as the team's top scorer. Head Coach Jared Beach -
"Ryan is a very honest player. He plays hard every night, in all three zones. This season he led our team in scoring while also being a key piece to our penalty kill unit . Ryan is the type of player you want on the ice at the end of the game if you are down by a goal and need a big play, or up by a goal and need to shut the other team down. Maine is very lucky to get such a complete player."
Ryan will enter Maine as a freshman for either the 2013 or 2014 season. Please join us in wishing him the best of luck!!!

TEAM COMCAST '96S WIN BACK-TO-BACK AYHL CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Congratulations to the Team Comcast '96s for winning their second AYHL Championship in as many years. The Bantam Minor team defeated the Long Island Gulls 4-3 in Sunday's AYHL Championship Game! The team went 5-0 in League Playoffs defeating Long Island twice (3-2 & 4-3), the NJ Rockets twice(3-2 & 5-2), and the Mid Fairfield Blues (5-1).
'98s Finish Season as AYHL Runner-Up!
Congratulations also go out to the '98 team for finishing as a runner-up in the AYHL Playoffs. The '98s lost 3-2 in an exciting championship game against the undefeated NJ Colonials. Team Comcast went 3-0 in the preliminary round to earn the top seed for the semi-finals, where they met the Little Flyers who they had beaten 7-1 Friday afternoon in the opening game of the play-offs. The rematch was a thriller, with both teams battling for every inch of the ice through regulation time and overtime before Team Comcast won 4-3 in a shoot-out. In the Championship Game, Team Comcast faced the defending champions Colonials who were unbeaten in AYHL play in 2009-2010 (26-0-4). The Colonials jumped out to an early lead and stretched it to 3-0 after two periods, and appeared to be in control of the game. But, as they had all season, Team Comcast never quit and battled back to 3-2 with a short-handed goal in the final minutes. From there it was a frantic finish as Team Comcast pressed furiously for the equalizer, but to their credit the Colonials were able to hang on for the victory with some game-saving defensive heroics as time expired.
Team Comcast Is Proud Of The Way Our teams All performed In This Weekend's Playoffs!
2000s (0-2-1) in round robin 1999s Lost in semifinals 1998s Lost in the championship game 1996s Won the AYHL Championship 1994s 2-1 in District playdowns; fell short of qualifying for District best-of-three by one goal.
TEAM COMCAST 18U COMPLETES FIRST SEASON IN TIER I ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE PLANS NOW IN PLACE FOR 16U TEAM TO JOIN LEAGUE FOR 2010-11 SEASON
The Team Comcast 18U team recently completed the eighth and final Tier I Elite League Showcase of the season, competing in Pittsburgh, PA against Mid-Am Division teams Russell Stover, St. Louis, Dallas, Columbus & Cleveland. The team then came home for four intra-division games - two each against the Pittsburgh Hornets and Boston Advantage.Coach Jared Beach’s team earned a split with Boston (each team won a game by a 4-2 score), then forged a tie and one-goal loss against Pittsburgh to close out its’ first season in this league.
Throughout the season, the players on this team have received tremendous experience participating in this League against many of the top 18U teams in the country - 14 of the top 20 are from the Tier I Elite League.Exposure has also been outstanding as all eight of the league’s five-game Showcases were well-attended by scouts and coaches from Division I and III colleges, USHL, NAHL, EJHL and the BCHL.As the youngest team in this league, Comcast’s win-loss record is not as good as it would like, but every player has improved their game and become a better hockey player. In addition, several players have garnered the interest of the coaches and scouts and look forward to pursuing a future at higher levels of junior and college hockey. In fact, ’93 born forward John Gaudreau just last week committed to attend Northeastern University for the Fall of 2012!
Team Comcast 18U also competed in the AYHL for the 2009-10 season and on March 6th & 7th will participate in the Atlantic District Championships in a best-of-three playoff for the right to attend USA Hockey’s National Championships!
MORE EXCITING NEWS - Team Comcast now plans to also enter its’ 16U team in the Tier I Elite League for the 2010-11 season. The 18U & 16U teams each plan to participate in both the AYHL and the Tier I Elite League next season.
Tryouts for Team Comcast 18U, 16U and all other younger level teams will be April 13th through April 15th, and more information will be forthcoming in the very near future.
