TEAM COMCAST '96S WIN BACK-TO-BACK AYHL CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Congratulations to the Team Comcast '96s for winning their second AYHL Championship in as many years.  The Bantam Minor team defeated the Long Island Gulls 4-3 in Sunday's AYHL Championship Game!  The team went 5-0 in League Playoffs defeating Long Island twice (3-2 & 4-3), the NJ Rockets twice(3-2 & 5-2), and the Mid Fairfield Blues (5-1).

'98s Finish Season as AYHL Runner-Up!

Congratulations also go out to the '98 team for finishing as a runner-up in the AYHL Playoffs.  The '98s lost 3-2 in an exciting championship game against the undefeated NJ Colonials. Team Comcast went 3-0 in the preliminary round to earn the top seed for the semi-finals, where they met the Little Flyers who they had beaten 7-1 Friday afternoon in the opening game of the play-offs. The rematch was a thriller, with both teams battling for every inch of the ice through regulation time and overtime before Team Comcast won 4-3 in a shoot-out. In the Championship Game, Team Comcast faced the defending champions Colonials who were unbeaten in AYHL play in 2009-2010 (26-0-4). The Colonials jumped out to an early lead and stretched it to 3-0 after two periods, and appeared to be in control of the game. But, as they had all season, Team Comcast never quit and battled back to 3-2 with a short-handed goal in the final minutes. From there it was a frantic finish as Team Comcast pressed furiously for the equalizer, but to their credit the Colonials were able to hang on for the victory with some game-saving defensive heroics as time expired.

Team Comcast Is Proud Of The Way Our teams All performed In This Weekend's Playoffs!

2000s (0-2-1) in round robin
1999s Lost in semifinals
1998s Lost in the championship game
1996s Won the AYHL Championship
1994s 2-1 in District playdowns; fell short of qualifying for District best-of-three by one goal.

TEAM COMCAST 18U COMPLETES FIRST SEASON
IN TIER I ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE
PLANS NOW IN PLACE FOR 16U TEAM TO JOIN LEAGUE FOR 2010-11 SEASON

The Team Comcast 18U team recently completed the eighth and final Tier I Elite League Showcase of the season, competing in Pittsburgh, PA against Mid-Am Division teams Russell Stover, St. Louis, Dallas, Columbus & Cleveland.  The team then came home for four intra-division games - two each against the Pittsburgh Hornets and Boston Advantage.   Coach Jared Beach’s team earned a split with Boston (each team won a game by a 4-2 score), then forged a tie and one-goal loss against Pittsburgh to close out its’ first season in this league.

Throughout the season, the players on this team have received tremendous experience participating in this League against many of the top 18U teams in the country - 14 of the top 20 are from the Tier I Elite League.  Exposure has also been outstanding as all eight of the league’s five-game Showcases were well-attended by scouts and coaches from Division I and III colleges, USHL, NAHL, EJHL and the BCHL.  As the youngest team in this league, Comcast’s win-loss record is not as good as it would like, but every player has improved their game and become a better hockey player.  In addition, several players have garnered the interest of the coaches and scouts and look forward to pursuing a future at higher levels of junior and college hockey.  In fact, ’93 born forward John Gaudreau just last week committed to attend Northeastern University for the Fall of 2012!

Team Comcast 18U also competed in the AYHL for the 2009-10 season and on March 6th & 7th will participate in the Atlantic District Championships in a best-of-three playoff for the right to attend USA Hockey’s National Championships!

MORE EXCITING NEWS - Team Comcast now plans to also enter its’ 16U team in the Tier I Elite League for the 2010-11 season.  The 18U & 16U teams each plan to participate in both the AYHL and the Tier I Elite League next season.

Tryouts for Team Comcast 18U, 16U and all other younger level teams will be April 13th through April 15th, and more information will be forthcoming in the very near future.

CURRENT & FORMER TEAM COMCAST PLAYERS MAKING DIV. I COLLEGE COMMITMENTS!
Current Team Comcast 18U player John Gaudreau has committed to attend Northeastern University.  Former Team Comcast players Nick Luukko (Vermont) and Eric Neiley (Dartmouth) also commit.

Gaudreau-

5'6", 135lb. Team Comcast Under-18 forward John Gaudreau has committed to Northeastern for the fall of '12. Gaudreau, an August '93 birthdate, has a 26-24-50 line in 42 Tier I Elite League games this season.  He's a left shot playing the off wing, and can also play in the middle. A lot of the Ivies- Dartmouth, Princeton, Yale, and Brown -- were onto him.  In Hockey East, UNH and UMass-Amherst were also in the picture.  Gaudreau's father played at Norwich for UMass coach Toot Cahoon back in the early '80s.  A junior in high school, Gaudreau will play for Team Comcast again next season, and then take a year in the USHL before heading to Northeastern.  "He's a small kid but has unbelievable hands," says Jared Beach, his coach.  "He's a dynamic player who can cut back to evade defenders better than anyone I've seen.  His skating is awesome.  He has the best edge control of anyone I've seen at the '93 level.  And he can stickhandle in a phone booth.  He needs to fill out but will be a huge impact guy at the Division I level."

Luukko-
6'2", 180lb. Gunnery senior defenseman Nick Luukko has committed to the University of Vermont for the fall of '11.  Luukko made his final pick from between Vermont and UMass-Amherst.  His father, Peter Luukko, an Auburn, Mass. native, is a Umass-Amherst grad who is today the President/CEO of Comcast-Spectacor, which owns the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers.  Luukko, a right shot from West Chester, PA, has a 1-16-17 line in 22 games for the Gunnery, and was ranked #150 in Central Scouting's recent Mid-Term Rankings.  An 11/29/91 birthdate, Luukko will likely be playing next season in the USHL.  He is the fourth player from the current Gunnery squad to commit to a Hockey East School, joining Alex Vazzano (Vermont), Terrance Wallin (UMass-Lowell), and Derek Army (Providence).

Neiley-

Phillips Exeter 5'11", 180lb. junior Eric Neiley has committed to Dartmouth for the fall of '11.  Neiley, a first-year student at Exeter, is a goal scorer who sees the ice very well, makes plays, and has deceptive speed.  In 21 games so far this season, he has a 19-19-38 line.  Colgate and Union were the other two schools interested in him.  A native of Warminster, Pennsylvania, Neiley played for Team Comcast Midget AAA last season and was drafted in the sixth round of last June's OHL draft by Kingston.  A 1/30/92 birthdate, Neiley is ranked #166 on Central Scouting's Mid-Term Rankings.

TEAM COMCAST MAKES THE DAILY NEWS

Team Comcast was featured in the following story in yesterday's (12/22/09) edition of the Daily News.

Promoting Concussion Awareness In Youth Hockey

THE ORDINARILY energetic boy in the back seat of the car had gone strangely quiet. It seemed odd to Team Comcast "AAA" Youth Hockey Club coach Keith Primeau, who was driving some players back from a game one Sunday a few years ago. The boy - Nicholas Bohatiuk - was then 11 years old, on the opposing team and in his initial year of contact hockey. Play had stopped when suddenly a rival player came up from behind and plowed into him as he stood at the blue line.  CLICK HERE FOR THE COMPLETE STORY!

TEAM COMCAST 16U TEAM WINS TIER I ELITE THANKSGIVING CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT
The Team Comcast 16U team swept through the competition over Thanksgiving Weekend to earn a tournament championship! In the round-robin competition, the team defeated the Philadelphia Jr Flyers 3-1, Boston Advantage 7-0 and the Buffalo Regals 4-0.  The team then faced a rematch against the Jr Flyers for the Championship Game, and prevailed with a 6-4 victory.  Congrats to the team for a very solid effort all weekend!

TEAM COMCAST "AAA" YOUTH HOCKEY CLUB RECEIVES GRANT TO IMPLEMENT CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Team Comcast, a USA Hockey Tier I Youth Hockey club, through a grant from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is developing and conducting a concussion management program for Team Comcast youth hockey players.  This concussion management program includes education for the parents, coaches and players involved with the club, as well as pre-season baseline neurocognitive testing for all players ages 11-years-old and above, all in an effort to optimally manage concussions during the season in a proactive manner.  The grant provides Team Comcast the benefit of testing all of its players once for each of the next two seasons, as well as the necessary funding to have CHOP doctors deliver concussion awareness and management education to all of its’ families.  Click here for the  more information!

NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING BUREAU'S PLAYERS TO WATCH LIST RELEASED!
FORMER TEAM COMCAST PLAYERS LUUKKO, SMITH, AND HELLER NAMED

The recent NHL Central Scouting Bureau's Players to Watch List was released for the upcoming 2010 Draft and included several former Team Comcast players.  The format for the Players to Watch List consists of 3 different grading criteria:

A Rating -- A 'must see' player who is predicted to be a potential First or Second Round Draft selection in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft

B Rating -- A player to note if you are in the area, a potential selection in the Third to Fifth Round Draft Selection in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft

C Rating -- A player that Central Scouting is tracking, a potential late round selection in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft

Nick Luukko '91 was the only 'B' ranked former Team Comcast player, currently playing for the Gunnery.  Standing at nearly 6'4" and 185 lbs., Nick certainly has the potential to be a high NHL pick as a big, right-handed defenseman. Kyle Smith '92 and Thane Heller '92 were both listed as 'C' players while playing this season for the Boston Junior Bruins in the EJHL. Kyle and Thane made the jump from last year's National Championship runner-up 16u Team Comcast team to the Junior A level. Andrew Tegeler '92, another member of the Team Comcast 16u National Championship runner-up team, found himself listed as a 'C' player after a strong showing last year at Nationals and a good start this fall in New England.  Andrew is currently at the Westminster School in Simsbury, CT.  Chris McCarthy '91 was listed as a 'C' player after coming out to a great start as a freshman forward at the University of Vermont. Chris transitioned from Team Comcast 16u two seasons ago to the US National Team Development Program last season, to the Division 1 level this year and continues to impress as he climbs the ranks. Finally, Dom Racobaldo '92 was also rated a 'C' player as he currently plays for Shattuck St. Mary's Prep team.
