Coaching Bio's: Danny Briere Danny played three seasons of amateur hockey with Drummondville (1994-95 through 1996-97) in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League registering 170 goals and 246 assists for 416 points and 224 penalty minutes in 198 games…Led the team in scoring in each of his three years and in 1995-96 became the fourth player in QMJHL history (Dale Hawerchuk, Pat LaFontaine and Mario Lemieux) to lead the league in points (163), goals (67) and assists (96) in 67 games…Named to the QMJHL Second All-Star Team…Named QMJHL Offensive Rookie of the Year and QMJHL Scholastic Player of the Year in 1994-95.
Danny was drafted in the 1st round, 24th overall, by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He played in parts of nine NHL seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes and Buffalo Sabres (1997 98 through 2006-07) before joining the Flyers. Briere played parts of six seasons with Phoenix (1997-98 through 2002-03), recording 70 goals and 76 assists for 146 points in 258 regular season games with 146 penalty minutes. He played parts of four seasons with Buffalo (2002-03 through 2006-07), scoring 92 goals and 138 assists for 230 points in 225 regular season games.
In 2007-08, Danny led his team in playoff scoring with 16 points (9G, 7A)and reached the 30-goal mark for the third time in his career,setting a new career high for power play goals in a season. Additionaly, he was first on the team in power play points (37, tied for fifth in the NHL) and shooting percentage (17.0% - 31 goals on 182 shots - tied for 14th in the NHL). He was second on the team in points (72), goals (31), assists (41) and power play goals (14, tied for 11th in the NHL). In 2006-07, Briere recorded 32 goals and 63 assists for 95 points and 89 penalty minutes in 81 regular season games for the Buffalo Sabres. He led the Sabres in points (95, 10th in the NHL) and assists (63, seventh in the NHL)…His 32 goals, 63 assists and 95 points were all new career highs for a single season. Danny also led the Sabres in scoring with 15 points (3G,12A) in 16 playoff games as Buffalo advanced to the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals. His 12 assists during the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs set a new Sabres record for most assists in a playoff year. Danny signed with Philadelphia as a Free-Agent on July 1, 2007.
